“We spent billions on a border wall and quit when it was 90% finished.”
PolitiFact says: Contracts for construction at the southern border total billions of dollars, and Biden has directed a pause in construction. But construction was not 90% finished.

“Says there was a “28% increase in children to the border in my administration” and “31% … in 2019.” The increase in migration in January, February and March “happens every year.”
PolitiFact says: The number of children arriving at the border grew 63% from January to February 2021, more than double the rate Biden cited. The increase was about 33% in 2019, roughly in line with his claim.
“The Biden Administration Issued a ‘Gag Order’ on Border Guards”
“There has been a "28% increase in children to the border in my administration.”
FactCheck.org says: The increase is 63%.
“Well, look, the idea that I’m going to say, which I would never do, that if an unaccompanied child ends up at the border, we’re just going to let them starve to death and stay on the other side — no previous administration did that either, except Trump.”
Washington Post says: Many reports of malnutrition but none of death by starvation.
“New information coming in that Boulder shooter was a Syrian refugee who arrived via Obama-era asylum programs.”
PolitiFact says: Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa’s brother told CNN that their family emigrated from Syria to the U.S. in 2002, before Barack Obama was president.
“The border surge is “challenging” because the immigration system that had been in place for decades “was dismantled in its entirety by the Trump administration.”
PolitiFact says: Trump’s administration did make significant changes to the U.S. immigration system, but those changes are not wholly responsible for a surge in migration or the Biden administration's ability to deal with it.
“We proudly handed the Biden administration the most secure border in history. All they had to do was keep this smooth-running system on autopilot.”
PolitiFact says: Trump ignores that the surge started in the spring of 2020 when he was still in office. He also ignores the various factors that drive migrants to leave their home countries.
“Texas has launched ‘Operation Lone Star’ to finish the border wall themselves.”
“The southern U.S. border “is now open to anyone from anywhere in the world who wishes to enter our country.”
“The surge at the border began in the last four months of the Trump Administration. Didn't start in January.”
FactCheck.org says: A rise in border apprehensions did begin prior to the election under then-President Donald Trump. But the increase in unaccompanied children has spiked significantly in the first full month of the Biden administration.
“Kamala Harris said, “We will be shuttering the VA… the money saved will go to better use in assisting refugee families.”
“Says Joe Biden is “now saying he inherited ‘a mess’ at the border. Fact: 9,000 illegals all of 2020. So far in 2021 108,000 entered U.S.”
PolitiFact says: During the 2020 fiscal year, there were 400,651 encounters along the southwest border — more than 200,000 of which were apprehensions.
“We saw the increases (of unaccompanied minors at the southern U.S. border) dating back almost a year.”
PolitiFact says: Escobar is correct that the increase started before the Biden presidency and dates back almost a year. Still, there was a sharp increase in arrivals from January to February.
“Current immigration "apprehension numbers are worse than the 'crisis' Biden/Obama/Pelosi acknowledged in 2014!”
“For the first time in American history, if you're seeking asylum ... you can't do it from the United States. … You’ve got to seek asylum from abroad.”
PolitiFact says: Biden misstated key facts and missed important context about asylum policies. People can apply for asylum only once they are in the United States.
“The actions of Jan. 6 "border on sedition.”
PolitiFact says: "The people who stormed the Capitol building would seem to clearly qualify for prosecution under this provision," said Carlton Larson, a law professor at the University of California-Davis.
“A photo shows Barack Obama in front of “cages” built during his administration to hold migrants.”
PolitiFact says: The post uses a misleading image to make a point about immigrants in federal custody during Obama’s presidency. While the enclosures in the photo were built under Obama, the photo was not from his time as president.
