“Not one politician has died from [COVID-19], lost their job, or had their business looted.”
FactCheck.org says: A meme circulating on Facebook falsely claims, “Not one politician has died from the virus.” Actually, at least five current or former politicians across the country have died due to COVID-19.
“This week the CDC quietly updated the Covid number to admit that only 6% of all the 153,504 deaths recorded actually died from Covid.”
FactCheck.org says: Contrary to a claim boosted by President Donald Trump, the CDC hasn't reduced the number of deaths in the U.S. due to COVID-19. The claim was based on a misunderstanding of data.
“Trump administration will “further reduce the cost of prescription drugs and health insurance premiums" in a second term.”
FactCheck.org says: Employer-plan premiums have gone up, and so have prescription drug costs, by a metric Trump has referenced before.
“Australia won't let those who refuse a COVID vaccine to travel, go to restaurants, attend school, and other restrictions.”
“Convalescent plasma had been “proven to reduce mortality by 35%" in hospitalized COVID-19 patients.”
FactCheck.org says: Trump misrepresents a Mayo Clinic study, which found a relative mortality decrease of 35% for those given high- versus low-concentration plasma. The study did not prove that convalescent plasma is effective for COVID-19.
“Excess mortality in Europe this year is 33% higher than the United States — evidence that the tragic cost of this virus is higher in other Western nations.”
FactCheck.org says: That’s only possible when cherry-picking numbers or ignoring Europe’s larger population.
“Five million Americans infected by COVID-19. More than 170,000 Americans have died. By far the worst performance of any nation on Earth.”
FactCheck.org says: While that’s true based on the raw totals of COVID-19 cases and deaths, the U.S. is not the worst when adjusted for population or on other metrics.
“It's basically impossible to get any kind of compensation if you're injured" by a COVID-19 vaccine.”
FactCheck.org says: A 75-minute documentary-style video called "Plandemic: Indoctornation" presents a sweeping conspiracy theory about the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic, patents and vaccines.
“Photos show Joe Biden and Kamala Harris at a campaign rally and there is "not a mask in sight.”
FactCheck.org says: The photos are from early March 2020, before face masks were recommended for public settings by federal health officials.
“Billionaires got $400 billion richer" during the pandemic.”
FactCheck.org says: Liberal groups estimated a $434 billion increase in the net worth of America's more than 600 billionaires during "the first two months of the coronavirus pandemic." Actually, the pandemic started much earlier.
“The U.S. is “the only major industrial economy to have its unemployment rate triple” during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
FactCheck.org says: The U.S. counts a laid-off worker as “unemployed” even if the layoff is expected to be temporary — while many other countries do not.
“Bill de Blasio canceled the annual Tribute of Light over COVID fears.”
“Something like two-thirds of the debt in the budget was borrowed by the Government before this outbreak of COVID-19”
RMIT ABC Fact Check says: Mr Chalmers is correct. When the Coalition came to power in September 2013, gross debt stood at about $280.3 billion. That level of debt was largely the consequence of borrowing undertaken by the former Labor government…
“A woman was diagnosed with COVID-19, but "[t]urns out it WAS legionnaires disease from the moisture and bacteria in her mask.”
FactCheck.org says: A claim is circulating that wearing a mask to slow the spread of COVID-19 could cause Legionnaires’ disease. But that disease is caused by bacteria that festers mostly in warm, standing water, not in human saliva.
“Donald Trump Wants the Pandemic to Shut Dow the NFL”
“We have fewer [COVID-19] deaths per capita than ... most other nations in Western Europe.”
FactCheck.org says: Twice as many Western Europe countries outperform the U.S. on this particular death metric than those that underperform.
“I’ll be pursuing a major executive order requiring health insurance companies to cover all pre-existing conditions for all customers. ... This has never been done before.”
FactCheck.org says: The Affordable Care Act, enacted in 2010, prohibits insurance companies from denying coverage to those with preexisting conditions or charging them higher premiums.
“On distributing COVID-19 vaccines: "[O]ur great military ... they’ll be able to take care of this locationally and bringing it where it has to go very, very quickly. They’re all mobilized. It’s been fully set up.”
FactCheck.org says: The administration still has a lot of planning to do, and the military will have just a “complementary role to the traditional vaccine distribution networks,” as the HHS official told us.
“No Vaccine Needed" for COVID-19 because inhaled budesonide "Is Already a Cure.”
FactCheck.org says: Inhaled budesonide, an asthma medication, has not yet been proven in clinical trials as an effective treatment for COVID-19—though researchers are exploring its efficacy.
