Ang Republic Act (RA) 7549, na nilagdaan noong Mayo 22, 1992, ng noo'y pangulong Corazon Aquino, ay naglilibre sa mga pribadong donor ng mga cash incentive na iginawad sa mga pambansang atleta mula sa pagbabayad ng donor’s tax. Sinabi ni Atty. Larry Barcelo, BIR assistant commissioner for legal service, na habang ang exemption ay "lumalabas" na "impliedly repealed" ng 1997 Tax Code, malamang na ang mga donasyon kay Diaz ay hindi papatawan ng donor's tax.
