According to National Grid, an energy company operating un the United Kingdom and the United States, liquefied natural gas produces 40% less carbon dioxide (CO2) than coal and 30% less than oil, making it the cleanest among the fossil fuels. It says LNG is primarily made up of methane and is clear, odorless, and colorless. However, the United Nations Environment Programme notes that methane is a hazardous gas and is 80 times more potent at warming the Earth than CO2 over a 20-year period.
