“Neophyte Sen. Robinhood Padilla said on June 16 that “the ‘new’ Senate is not taking its job lightly” and “not in the business of comedy” amid the serious problems facing the country, refuting former senator Franklin Drilon’s statement about the lack of proper decorum which could inadvertently erode the chambers’ credibility and prestige.”
What Vera Files found
Video recordings of committee hearings in the Senate show Padilla and other senators engaging in unparliamentary behavior such as bantering and berating resource persons with expletives and other obscene words and threatening them with physical harm during legislative proceedings. In the May 16 hearing of the Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, Padilla was caught on camera combing his mustache five times while the senator beside him was delivering his opening remarks.
