This is a shift from Palace Spokesperson Harry Roque's pronouncement in November 2020, when he said Duterte was "eager to end his term because he already wants to go back home to Davao [City]." In March 2021, Roque implied that the president would not likely run again for any position, but was not sure if "there [had] been any change." Duterte himself in November 2019 said he will “no longer run” or support a candidate in the upcoming polls.
