PolitiFact says: In July and August 2022, federal agents seized 4,500 pounds of fentanyl, the vast majority along the southwestern border, compared with 2,800 pounds seized in all of 2019.
“There have now been 16 straight months of OVER 150,000 illegal border crossings.”
PolitiFact says: Customs and Border Protection data shows that the number of southwest border encounters has exceeded 150,000 per month for 18 consecutive months.
“Footage NASA shared from the DART spacecraft just before it crashed itself into an asteroid isn’t real.”
PolitiFact says: NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test spacecraft, also known as DART, intentionally struck the asteroid Dimorphos on Sept. 26. NASA compiled images it captured into a short video clip that has been shared widely.
“Martha’s Vineyard “deported 50 illegals after only 24 hours.”
PolitiFact says: Deportations occur when people are removed from the U.S. and sent back to their country of origin or, in some cases, to a third country. The migrants who were flown to Martha’s Vineyard weren't removed from the U.S.
“Michigan’s Proposal 2 “will permanently put in the Constitution that you never have to show an ID to vote ever again.”
PolitiFact says: Prop. 2 would not eliminate Michigan’s existing requirement that voters show a photo ID before casting a ballot in person. Voters will still be asked to show a poll worker picture ID before they receive a ballot.
“Only 325,000 American kids out of 19,000,000" were vaccinated against COVID-19.”
PolitiFact says: About 325,000 children ages 6 months to 4 years old were fully vaccinated as of mid-September. But, in total, more than 20 million kids ages 5 to 17 have completed their primary vaccine series.
“Raphael Warnock "called police thugs, then cut their funding.”
PolitiFact says: Warnock used the word “thugs” in a 2015 sermon. He was specifically referring to police in Ferguson, Missouri, not police generally. And as a senator, he voted for multiple bills that expanded police resources.
“Ron Johnson has voted against funding for law enforcement and recently opposed a plan to recruit and train new officers”
“Sen. Marco Rubio and U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis “voted against aid for Hurricane Sandy.”
PolitiFact says: In 2012 and 2013, Rubio voted against the larger aid packages for victims of Hurricane Sandy but supported smaller aid bills. DeSantis in 2013 voted against Hurricane Sandy aid.
“Sen. Raphael Warnock "voted with Biden to slash Medicare spending.”
PolitiFact says: By leveraging Medicare’s market power, the government would be able to pay less for certain prescription drugs, thus preserving the same level of benefits for less money. That's not a cut.
“Breaking: Judiciary Democrats just voted to support non-citizens voting in our elections.”
PolitiFact says: A bill aims to make it easier for election officials to provide ballots in languages other than English, but that doesn't change federal law which says citizenship is a requirement to vote in federal elections.
“On exceptions to Wisconsin’s abortion ban.”
“Says Ron Johnson "wants to put Social Security and Medicare on the chopping block every single year.”
“Every time a Republican has been elected president over the last few decades, House Democrats have objected to the result”
PolitiFact says: Democrats have objected to election results in prior years, after the losing candidate had conceded. When Republicans objected in 2021, Trump was trying to stay in office.
“Says under his plan to end cash bail "the Waukesha perpetrator wouldn’t have been released”
“This year, it's going to be over $1.5 trillion (that we’ve) reduced the debt.”
PolitiFact says: The latest projection shows that the deficit is about $1.7 trillion lower now than it was in 2021. But this is mostly because of an unusual historical circumstance — the expiration of coronavirus pandemic relief.
