PolitiFact
PolitiFact is a United States fact-checking site run by the Poynter Institute. It rates claims by politicians and viral posts on its Truth-O-Meter, from True to Pants on Fire.
“A STOLEN ELECTION: State totals minus illegal ballot trafficking numbers give President Trump decisive victories in AZ, GA, MI, PA, and WI.”
PolitiFact says: The claim rests on assumptions not supported by evidence.
“There were “400,000 illegal votes” cast in the 2020 presidential election”
PolitiFact says: Experts say the evidence D’Souza points to is inherently flawed. Voter fraud charges in the 2020 election were isolated and not enough to change the outcome.
“Conservatives gained Twitter followers after the company announced its deal with Elon Musk because "Twitter lifted a broad anti-conservative, anti-Trump shadow ban.”
“Matt Dolan sponsored Michael Bloomberg's “red-flag gun confiscation law, letting the people reporting your social media posts send SWAT teams to your house to take your guns.”
PolitiFact says: A bill would have allowed for guns to be taken from a person if a court determined, in certain situations, that person was a danger to himself or others. It would not have allowed confiscations due to social media posts.
“Since taking office, Hochul has passed more than 400 new bills”
PolitiFact says: Hochul signed 585 bills from when she became governor through early April.
“Cannabis reform "is supported by the majority of the residents of our state, including a majority of Republicans.”
“Biden to teachers: ‘They're not somebody else's children. They're yours when you're in the classroom.’”
PolitiFact says: Biden was talking about educators’ responsibility to their students and urged them to treat kids in the classroom with care, as if they were their own children. He told teachers students were "like" their own.
“Elon Musk suspended Bill Gates from Twitter.”
“That J.D. Vance said, “People who voted for Trump voted for him for racist reasons.”
PolitiFact says: The video was edited and changed Vance's meaning. Vance rejected the idea that racism played much of a role at all among Trump supporters.
“In 2021, “11,201 pounds of fentanyl were seized by Customs and Border Protection, which is enough to kill every American nearly seven times over.”
PolitiFact says: Using a standard fatal dose of 2 milligrams, the amount seized in 2021 would have been enough to kill every American 7.64 times over.
“Ron Johnson pushed through a special tax loophole that benefited his own family's business, then he cashed out of the company for $5 million and he "has doubled his wealth since taking office.”
“A consent decree approved by Gov. Brian Kemp “invalidated all voter ID law” and “allowed fraudulent ballots to be accepted” in the 2020 race.”
PolitiFact says: The agreement said nothing about voter ID law and we found no evidence that it opened the door to the counting of fraudulent ballots.
“Finnish Court rules sex with children is permitted.”
PolitiFact says: This isn’t true. Sex with children under 16 years old is illegal in Finland.
“Videos show that Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy uses cocaine.”
“A video shows the Russian warship Moskva exploding.”
“As Ohio treasurer, Josh Mandel loaned your money to Chinese business interests, and Mandel opposed a bill holding Communist China accountable when they cheated and stole American jobs.”
PolitiFact says: Mandel was the administrator of a state fund that invested public money in multinational corporations such as U.S.-based Exxon and Apple. The companies do business in China, but are not based there.
“J.D. Vance called for higher taxes.”
PolitiFact says: Mike Gibbons is partly right that J.D. Vance called for higher taxes. Vance supports raising taxes for some corporations and corporate leaders. But he has not called for tax increases broadly.
“The White House presented commemorative coins” dedicated to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.”
“Bath and Body Works products are not recommended during pregnancy because they are suspected of “damaging fertility or the unborn child.”
PolitiFact says: A Bath & Body Works safety sheet includes warnings about infertility. These disclosures aren’t new or limited to the company. The disclosures are meant for manufacturers and emergency workers — not consumers.
