PolitiFact
PolitiFact is a United States fact-checking site run by the Poynter Institute. It rates claims by politicians and viral posts on its Truth-O-Meter, from True to Pants on Fire.
“Photos show Manila Bay before and during Rodrigo Duterte’s administration.”
“President Joe Biden withdrew troops from Afghanistan “simply because of Trump Derangement Syndrome and they wanted to reverse any policy that Trump had implemented.”
PolitiFact says: President Joe Biden didn’t break with Trump on Afghanistan policy, except for pushing back the withdrawal by a few months. Trump set the U.S. troop removal in motion and Biden continued on that path.
“Says Christopher Miller is “in charge of the military.”
“Says Donald Trump said, “Alec Baldwin, a total loser, has taken his impression of me to a new low by testing out this theory” by shooting someone.”
“Says Dr. Anthony Fauci planned the AIDS epidemic.”
PolitiFact says: A 1984 video clip shows Dr. Anthony Fauci reflecting on how AIDS emerged in the United States, not plotting the pandemic.
“Says Halyna Hutchins tweeted, “I have information that will lead to Hillary Clinton’s arrest.”
“Says Jen Psaki said Joe Biden wants to protect “marked people.”
“Says Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted: “People can’t really be convicted on such flimsy circumstantial evidence as ‘having a similar gait’ or ‘owning the identical shoes’ or ‘being in DC and not having any alibi for that time’ can they?! I don’t recognize this America.”
PolitiFact says: This is a fabricated tweet. A spokesperson for Greene said the Congresswoman did not write or post this.
“Terry McAuliffe has a campaign sign that says, “Keep parents out of classrooms.”
“The Anti-Defamation League classified “Let’s go Brandon” as hate speech.”
“The military raided Hunter Biden’s home.”
“The remains of Brian Laundrie that were discovered in Florida belong to a twin.”
“The seasonal cold and flu is actually more dangerous for kids than the Coronavirus” and “there is very low transmissibility from children to their families and communities.”
“There will be a “clown purge” on Oct. 30.”
“Three percent is not a modest tax increase, if you own a $100,000 home in the city of Buffalo, that means an extra $300 a year.”
PolitiFact says: Increasing the existing tax rate by 3 percent would lead to an eventual increase of about $30 for a home assessed at $100,000.
“Trump has been reinstated.”
“The nation reported adding 194,000 jobs in September, and Florida accounted for 84,500.”
PolitiFact says: Florida had a great month for jobs, but his comparison of state and federal figures is more complicated than he lets on. It's also common for monthly numbers to jump around a lot; the previous month was much smaller.
“With COVID-19, vaccinated people "are the real threat to" unvaccinated people.”
PolitiFact says: The greater threat to the unvaccinated is the unvaccinated. Unvaccinated people are more likely than the vaccinated to get COVID-19, more likely to spread it, and much more likely to become seriously ill or die.
