PolitiFact
PolitiFact is a United States fact-checking site run by the Poynter Institute. It rates claims by politicians and viral posts on its Truth-O-Meter, from True to Pants on Fire.
“Says Marjorie Taylor Greene said, “Jesus loves the U.S. most and that is why the Bible is written in English.”
“Some of you are being injected with saline because it would look too suspicious if everybody died at the same time.”
“The opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics predicted the COVID-19 pandemic.”
PolitiFact says: The London Olympics featured a tribute to the U.K.'s National Health Service and to British children’s literature that included images of nurses standing beside hospital beds as Lord Voldemort loomed overhead.
“U.S. military holding White House for Trump’s return.”
“Thanks to the insane tax-and-spending spree of President Joe Biden and Democrats in Washington, we are seeing six straight months of raging inflation.”
PolitiFact says: Most of the government spending came before Biden took office. And not only have there not been tax hikes, if there had been, that would tend to reduce inflation pressures.
“CDC quietly deletes 6,000 COVID vaccine deaths from its CDC website total in one day.”
PolitiFact says: There hasn’t been any definitive proof that a COVID-19 vaccination led to someone’s death. The CDC did make an error on its website in reporting deaths that occur after vaccinations, but corrected it the same day.
“People charged in the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol are “political prisoners” and “non-violent trespassers” who have been held in solitary confinement for the past six months.”
PolitiFact says: Defendants in the Jan. 6 riot in the U.S. Capitol face charges that include violent acts and attacks on officers. They are not being prosecuted for political beliefs and, based on the charges, are not mere trespassers.
“Says Joe Biden “is restricting travel for Americans into Mexico, but is keeping the border wide open for illegal aliens to walk right into our country.”
PolitiFact says: Biden, like Trump, restricts Americans' travel to Mexico. The border is not “wide open” for illegal immigration. The vast majority of encounters result in U.S. immigration officials turning people away at the border.
“Don’t believe the hype that Florida” COVID-19 “numbers are up. It’s a blatant lie.”
PolitiFact says: Over the previous week, Florida accounted for more than one-fifth of new COVID-19 cases in the U.S. and recorded more COVID-19 deaths than any other state.
“There are “22 million illegal aliens living in America and ... voting illegally.”
“A photograph shows members of the U.S. women’s soccer team kneeling during the national anthem at the Tokyo Olympics.”
PolitiFact says: The photo showing some members of the U.S. women’s soccer team kneeling during the national anthem was taken in February 2021 at the SheBelieves Cup, not at the Tokyo Olympics.
“Ambassador Susan Rice Tribunal, Gavin Newsom indicted.”
PolitiFact says: The claim of military court action against the two prominent Democrats is baseless and was made by a website with a history of producing false information.
“People are being diagnosed with delta variant" even though "there is no delta variant test.”
PolitiFact says: Routine tests that determine whether an individual has COVID-19 do not reveal whether the disease was caused by the delta variant — mass testing of national COVID-19 samples does.
“The government is “monitoring SMS texts for dangerous misinformation about COVID vaccines.”
“Income taxes are voluntary.”
PolitiFact says: Federal law defines when people owe taxes, and that they must pay them. People who haven't paid have gone to prison.
“Says Joe Biden and Kamala Harris distrusted COVID-19 vaccines.”
PolitiFact says: Video clips appear to show Joe Biden and Kamala Harris raising doubts about COVID-19 vaccines, but they were raising concerns about the rollout by then-President Donald Trump, not the vaccines themselves.
“The coronavirus can’t be so dangerous because there are no biohazard bins for COVID-19 masks and gloves.”
PolitiFact says: PPE used by the general public doesn’t need to be disposed of like medical waste. Masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19 can be thrown away in the trash because COVID-19 doesn’t spread or survive easily on surfaces.
“The cost of an automobile, it's kind of back to what it was before the pandemic.”
PolitiFact says: New and used car prices began to increase in the summer of 2020, federal data shows. By June 2021, prices were almost 21% above their level right before the pandemic hit. Private-sector data shows the same pattern.
“This week the military was moving big equipment into the major big cities preparing for the Maricopa audit results.”
PolitiFact says: State and federal military officials told PolitiFact that they are not involved in the ballot review in Arizona.
