PolitiFact
PolitiFact is a United States fact-checking site run by the Poynter Institute. It rates claims by politicians and viral posts on its Truth-O-Meter, from True to Pants on Fire.
“Bill Gates fights to keep vaccine ingredients secret.”
“COVID-19 “has killed less people than the damn flu.”
“Foxconn “is the largest taxpayer in Racine County.”
“Group “identifies 12,547 illegal votes” in Georgia's 2020 election results, “exceeds margin of victory in the state.”
PolitiFact says: The claim is made by a pro-Donald Trump group whose leader has previously made election irregularity claims about the Georgia election that have been discredited. The new claim is made in a report that provides no proof.
“Hillary Clinton hanged at GITMO.”
“Human trafficking and drugs” at the Mexico border have “doubled, tripled and quadrupled” since Joe Biden became president.”
PolitiFact says: Experts say it takes time after someone enters the U.S. for them to be subjected to sex or labor trafficking, and there aren’t statistics yet for Biden’s presidency. The number of drug seizure events is up 11%.
“If you're like 21 years old, and you say to me, ‘Should I get vaccinated?’ I'll go, ‘No. Are you healthy? Are you a healthy person?’ Like, look, don't do anything stupid, but you should take care of yourself. If you're a healthy person, and you're exercising all the time, and you're young, and you’re eating well, I don't think you need to worry about this.”
“Joe Biden says Americans can only celebrate the Fourth of July if he says so.”
PolitiFact says: Biden in March said that if Americans followed COVID-19 guidelines, there was a “good chance” they could gather in “small groups” to celebrate the Fourth of July. He has not said that he might cancel Fourth gatherings.
“Joe Biden’s 100-day approval rating “is the lowest in American history.”
PolitiFact says: This headline is inaccurate. Just over half the country approves of the job President Joe Biden is doing as of his 100th day in office. That’s low — relative to other presidents since World War 2 — but not the lowest.
“Photo shows Facebook’s “community standards team.”
“Photo that shows COVID-19 test swabs labeled positive and negative proves that the tests are fixed.”
“Says the Memphis Police Department “will no longer respond” to crimes including larceny, breaking and entering, and motor vehicle theft.”
“The Biden Administration is buying Kamala Harris’ book with our taxpayer dollars.”
“UN cultural agency removes birthplace of Jesus from its list of heritage sites.”
“Very few … if any” states have a minimum wage of $7.25 an hour.”
PolitiFact says: Twenty-one states have a minimum wage of $7.25 an hour — more than 40% of states.
“70% of Americans don't believe a word the mainstream media puts out,” so “everyone who thinks Biden won are only 30% of the population.”
PolitiFact says: The most recent poll asking about Biden’s legitimacy found that 66% believed he was legitimately elected, which is twice as high as the 30% cited in the post.
“Biden is currently sending more military equipment to our neighborhoods than Trump did.”
PolitiFact says: The amount of equipment given to law enforcement agencies each year varies depending upon the available supply.
“Mariah Carey faked getting her COVID-19 vaccine because the needle can’t be seen coming out of her arm.”
PolitiFact says: Mariah Carey didn’t fake getting her COVID-19 vaccine. The health care worker who administered the shot used a retractable needle.
“Says his administration’s efforts have led to more school reopenings.”
PolitiFact says: Myriad factors have gone into school reopening decisions by local and state officials, including declining COVID-19 cases and increased vaccinations.
