PolitiFact is a United States fact-checking site run by the Poynter Institute. It rates claims by politicians and viral posts on its Truth-O-Meter, from True to Pants on Fire.
“Aluminum “is in the vaccine” and will hurt the brain.”
PolitiFact says: None of the COVID-19 vaccines contain aluminum.
“Candace Owens tweeted, “Yes, my husband did cheat on me with my brother. Yes, he said no when I asked to join.”
“Disneyland is enforcing a “no scream” policy on roller coasters.”
“Jamaica has not recorded any case of the coronavirus.”
“Kamala Harris said, “We will be shuttering the VA… the money saved will go to better use in assisting refugee families.”
“The movie “I am Legend” was based in the year 2021 and people turned into zombies “because of the wrong vaccine.”
PolitiFact says: This is inaccurate. The movie was set in 2012, not 2021. The story is about “mutant-like vampires,” not zombies, and the outbreak was caused by a genetically-modified virus meant to cure cancer, not a vaccine.
“Under H.R. 1, the Federal Election Commission “for the first time ever, instead of being an equal number of Republicans and Democrats (would be) three of one side and two of the other.”
PolitiFact says: Blunt’s statement is directly contradicted by H.R. 1’s language. However, assuming that the fifth member will be genuinely independent requires some trust in the system.
“Video “proves 100% that President Joe Biden is not a ‘human’ being.”
“Video shows Joe Biden faked an interview in front of a green screen.”
“You will need a WHO Yellow Vaccination Passport if you plan on traveling internationally once borders open.”
PolitiFact says: While some countries have started to use vaccination certificates, they are not required everywhere. The World Health Organization has advised countries not to require COVID-19 vaccination for travel.
“Black Lives Matter of Atlanta Charged with Wire Fraud, Money Laundering and Allegedly Using almost 500k in Donations For Personal Use.”
“Pelosi’s $1.9 trillion bailout gives EVERY federal employee a $21,000 bonus check… they never lost their job!”
PolitiFact says: The law allocates money for an expanded paid-leave fund for federal workers dealing with certain COVID-19-related matters. There is no bonus check. It covers leave that would otherwise be unpaid.
“Pot today is not the weed baby boomers were smoking.”
“The relief bill signed by President Joe Biden "punished the states that opened earlier, and it rewarded the states that stayed closed the longest.”
PolitiFact says: Experts say that no method for targeting aid to the states is perfect; each has pluses and minuses. Preliminary academic research shows that government policies on reopening had only a modest impact on unemployment.
“We’ve had more voter turnout since voter ID was passed than ever before.”
PolitiFact says: The implication baked into this claim is that the voter ID law must not have hampered voting if turnout was still historically high. But that's not what the data shows.
“When I became governor, we banned sanctuary cities and we also did E-Verify.”
PolitiFact says: The Legislature did pass a bill banning sanctuary cities although Democrats said none existed. The E-Verify bill did not apply to all private businesses.
“The Atlanta shooting suspect wrote an anti-China post on Facebook prior to the shootings.”
PolitiFact says: The post isn’t legitimate and didn’t come from an authentic Facebook account. It was made using an online generator that creates fake Facebook status updates.
“We have reached our goal to clear the backlog of (unemployment) claims.”
“A photo shows a recent White House event was actually filmed at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta.”
PolitiFact says: The photo was not taken at Tyler Perry’s film studio in Georgia. The image shows the signing ceremony of the American Rescue Plan, the $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill. It was held at the White House Rose Garden.
