“The 2015 Iran nuclear agreement “gave (Iran) the right to have top-of-the-line nuclear weapons.”
Donald Trump president. an event in the Oval Office. Claim dated 3 Mar 2026.
PolitiFact rated thisFalse

What PolitiFact found

The nuclear agreement did not bless Iran’s "right" to nuclear weapons. Iran could have acquired or developed a nuclear weapon by defying the terms of the nuclear agreement. That’s because the agreement was based on Iran’s continued adherence to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which Iran signed in 1970. This treaty deems Iran a non-nuclear state, meaning it promised to forgo developing or acquiring nuclear weapons.
