What Vera Files found

In a move that surprised many, President Rodrigo Duterte decided on June 1 to temporarily suspend for six months (ending on Dec. 1) the termination of the VFA "in light of political and other developments in the region." This was contradictory to a Feb. 11 statement of then presidential spokesperson and concurrent Chief Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo that Duterte "will not entertain any initiative" from the U.S. government to save the VFA.
