“The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines is a platform organized by the CPP-NPA-NDF to infiltrate the ranks of the media in the guise of press freedom promotion and independent journalism.”
What Vera Files found
Veteran journalists led by the late Antonio Nieva formed NUJP in 1986 to specifically focus on “the plight of working journalists, which would include freelance journalists and those working in non-unionized companies.” NUJP founding member Joel Paredes said the group “worked as a professional newsmen’s guild to help colleagues in need while working to uphold press freedom in and out of the workplace.”
