Donald Trump
President of the United States. 1,168 claims checked by other fact-checking organisations, from 2018 to 2026. The ratings are theirs, in their own words.
“Under an executive order, “expensive insulin went from big dollars to virtual pennies … especially (for) our seniors.”
PolitiFact says: Aside from him talking about hoped-for insulin price cuts as if they were a done deal, his action was too narrow to change things very much.
“Absentee voting is different from mail-in voting and has more protections against fraud.”
PolitiFact says: There is no difference between absentee voting and voting by mail. All mail ballots, regardless of how they're requested, are treated the same once they’re cast. They all require verification before being counted.
“Yesterday I signed four measures that will massively reduce the prices of prescription drugs, in many cases by more than 50%.”
FactCheck.org says: That could happen for some individuals, but it remains to be seen how the orders will be implemented and whether they will result in such large reductions.
“Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???”
PolitiFact says: Since 1845, Congress has required states to appoint presidential electors on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November. Any change would require congressional action.
“I don’t even know what [Dr. Anthony Fauci's] stance is on" using hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID-19.”
FactCheck.org says: In fact, Fauci has said — at briefings attended by Trump — that there is no evidence that hydroxychloroquine works for COVID-19.
“Students "don’t catch it easily; they don’t bring it home easily.”
PolitiFact says: Early research suggests the virus affects older teens similarly to adults.
“We're setting record job numbers.”
PolitiFact says: Trump is fixating on one piece of the jobs puzzle, the job gains in May and June, while ignoring the rest of the picture. Those gains made up less than 40% of the jobs lost in April.
“Black Lives Matter protesters and Mexicans have contributed to the rise of coronavirus cases in the U.S.”
FactCheck.org says: Experts say there is no evidence that Black Lives Matter protests or Mexicans have caused the spike in coronavirus cases in pockets of the U.S., contradicting President Donald Trump’s assertions.
“They do say that [children] don’t transmit very easily, and a lot of people are saying they don’t transmit. They don’t bring it home with them. They don’t catch it easily; they don’t bring it home easily.”
Washington Post says: Trump is echoing a claim made by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, which was based on a misinterpretation of the German report that did not apply to conditions in the United States.
“Says Supreme Court DACA decision gave him "powers that nobody thought the president had.”
PolitiFact says: The court's ruling was narrow and focused on the Administrative Procedure Act.
“Biden wants to defund the police.”
FactCheck.org says: Biden has said, "I do not support defunding police." He said police could lose some federal aid if they refuse to implement “meaningful reforms,” or receive more money to implement changes.
“Look, Dr. Fauci said, ‘Don’t wear a mask.’”
Washington Post says: Fauci initially wanted to preserve masks for healthcare workers but changed position once science indicated that the virus was spread by people who were asymptomatic.
“Joe Biden "wants to end school choice, no school choice, and abolish charter schools.”
FactCheck.org says: Biden opposes federal funding going to "for-profit charter schools," but schools managed by for-profit companies make up only a fraction of charter schools.
“I got soldiers the biggest pay raises in the history of our military.”
FactCheck.org says: The largest increase in basic military pay under Trump was 3.1%. Since 2002, there have been larger increases in seven of the last 19 years, including 5% in 2002 and 4.1% in 2003.
“We have one of the lowest mortality rates in the world” from COVID-19.”
PolitiFact says: The United States doesn’t have one of the world’s lowest mortality rates from the coronavirus. No fewer than 15 advanced, industrialized nations currently have a lower mortality rate, as do a host of other countries.
“The Joe Biden-Bernie Sanders unity platform would "abolish completely the death penalty.”
PolitiFact says: This is accurate. The unity document reads, "Democrats continue to support abolishing the death penalty."
“A Joe Biden-Bernie Sanders “unity” policy document shows “they want to abolish our police departments. They want to abolish our prisons, I guess.”
PolitiFact says: The document Trump cited does not say anything about abolishing the police or prisons. In fact, it includes several passages that clearly indicate that police and prisons will exist in the future.
“Joe Biden wants to end school choice.”
PolitiFact says: Biden opposes vouchers for private school tuition, but supports school choice through charter schools, magnet schools and public school choice.
“Says Joe Biden plans to “mandate net-zero carbon emissions for homes, offices and all new buildings by 2030. That basically means no windows, no nothing.”
PolitiFact says: Biden isn't proposing a mandate for net-zero emission buildings. The Biden-Sanders task force recommendations don't mention windows, and net-zero emission buildings can have windows.
