Donald Trump
President of the United States. 1,168 claims checked by other fact-checking organisations, from 2018 to 2026. The ratings are theirs, in their own words.
“Joe Biden’s tax plan would result in “doubling and tripling your taxes.”
FactCheck.org says: Biden proposes to raise an additional $4 trillion in taxes over 10 years, but the increases would fall mainly on very high-income earners and corporations, and wouldn't even double people's taxes at any income level.
“When will they open a Cold Case on the Psycho Joe Scarborough matter in Florida. Did he get away with murder? Some people think so. Why did he leave Congress so quietly and quickly? Isn’t it obvious? What’s happening now? A total nut job!”
“Germany and the United States are the two best in deaths per 100,000 people" for COVID-19.”
FactCheck.org says: As of May 11, the U.S. had 24.66 deaths per 100,000 people — more than two times higher than Germany (9.24 deaths per 100,000), and the 11 highest rate out of the more than 140 countries.
“Suggested that Pennsylvania was making “no effort” to reopen its economy.”
FactCheck.org says: The state is in the midst of a phased reopening. Restrictions have been eased although by no means eliminated in 24 counties, and will be relaxed in another 13 on May 15.
“We are testing more people per capita than South Korea, the United Kingdom, France, Japan, Sweden, Finland and many other countries.”
“I was talking about people that went because they felt very strongly about the monument to Robert E. Lee, a great general.”
Washington Post says: The evidence shows there were no quiet protesters against removing the statue that weekend. That’s just a figment of the president’s imagination.
“I closed our country to China. Nancy Pelosi was, a month later, saying, ‘It’s going to pass.’ Everybody — even Tony Fauci was saying, ‘It’s going to pass, not going to be a big deal.’”
“Models projecting COVID-19 deaths “are talking about without mitigation.”
PolitiFact says: A draft federal government report drawing on preliminary work from Johns Hopkins projected 3,000 deaths per day by June 1. A University of Washington model predicts 134,000 deaths by early August. That model takes into a
“On potential deaths: "Those models that you're mentioning are talking about without mitigation.”
PolitiFact says: "We’ve never put forward a forecast that included no mitigation," the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation spokeswoman said.
“The University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation's revised model projecting 134,000 COVID-19 deaths by August “assumes no mitigation.”
FactCheck.org says: The IHME model reflects some relaxation of policies as states begin to reopen, but is still trying to capture the mitigation efforts that remain.
“Ad shows Biden and Pelosi attacking Trump’s pandemic response, Cuomo and Newsom praising it.”
PolitiFact says: Trump’s ad mashes together his statements about the pandemic with comments or critical actions by Democrats and a journalist that are taken out of context. The ad cherry-picks praise of Trump by New York Gov. Andrew Cuom
“Campaign TV ad suggests CNN chief medical correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta agreed 2 million people would have died from the novel coronavirus were it not for President Donald Trump's China travel restrictions.”
FactCheck.org says: A Trump campaign ad misleadingly edits a CNN interview to suggest 2 million people would have died from the novel coronavirus were it not for President Donald Trump’s China travel restrictions.
“It [AIDS] was a death certificate. And then, all of a sudden, they came up with some kind of — and now we have — we will be AIDS-free within eight years. We started 10 years. Should have started in the previous administration. They did nothing.”
Washington Post says: Trump's plans for fighting AIDS was built on Obama's plans, though with a more ambitious goal; both presidents spent about the same amount of money each year.
“You could fly out of Wuhan where the primary problem was … and you could go to different parts of the world, but you couldn’t go [from Wuhan] to Beijing and you couldn’t go to any place in China.”
FactCheck.org says: Flight records show China did block international commercial flights out of Wuhan after Jan. 23, according to Flightradar24, a global flight tracking service.
“Biden has now written a letter of apology" regarding the administration's travel restrictions on China.”
FactCheck.org says: There’s no evidence of such a letter, and Biden’s campaign says it “never happened.”
“Says Joe Biden has “written a letter of apology” for calling Trump’s travel restrictions from China “xenophobic.”
“I will tell you, more and more, we’re hearing the story [that the new coronavirus emerged from a Wuhan lab].”
Washington Post says: The balance of the scientific evidence strongly supports the conclusion that the new coronavirus emerged from nature. Too many unexpected coincidences would have had to take place for it to have escaped from a lab.
“We had a ventilator problem that was caused by the fact that we weren’t left ventilators by a previous administration.”
FactCheck.org says: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a 2017 article that there were roughly 9,000 ventilators in the federal stockpile as of at least 2010, and ventilators in the U.S. stockpile had never been used.
“We’ve tested more than every country combined.”
PolitiFact says: There is no reasonable way to conclude that the American system has run more diagnostics than "all other major countries combined." Just by adding up a few other nations’ totals, Trump’s claim quickly falls apart.
