Kevin McCarthy, House Speaker

“When the Republicans were in power the last time for eight years, do you know how much discretionary spending increased in those eight years? Zero.”

PolitiFact rated this: Half True

PolitiFact says: The increase in discretionary spending was close to zero when measured by “outlays,” or actual federal dollars out the door during a given year, but not for the spending approved in a given year for all future years.

John Rich, Singer

“Cellphone data used to arrest the Idaho quadruple-murder suspect proves that criticism of the “2000 Mules” movie’s use of cell data is unfounded.”

PolitiFact rated this: False

PolitiFact says: “2,000 Mules” claimed its data showed that 400,000 ballots were cast illegally in the 2020 election. Experts said the data can show only that people were near ballot drop boxes, which could have been for many reasons.

Donald Trump, former president

“As president, Donald Trump “marshaled the full power of government to stop deadly drugs, opioids, and fentanyl from coming into our country. As a result, drug overdose deaths declined nationwide for the first time in nearly 30 years.”

PolitiFact rated this: Mostly False

PolitiFact says: The overdose death rate did drop in 2018. But this is a cherry-picked view of the trends on Trump’s watch. In the other three of his four years in office, the overdose death rate rose, including a record jump in 2020.
