PolitiFact
PolitiFact is a United States fact-checking site run by the Poynter Institute. It rates claims by politicians and viral posts on its Truth-O-Meter, from True to Pants on Fire.
“Your state will send you free infant formula if you call Enfamil and Similac customer service numbers.”
“79% of Planned Parenthood clinics are in minority neighborhoods. This is not by accident. That is by its founder, Margaret Sanger's, eugenicist design.”
“The problem with mail ballots in Lancaster County is a sign of “voter fraud.”
PolitiFact says: The county said that it was a printing error by the vendor. Commonwealth and county officials said they had seen no signs of fraud.
“When unemployment goes down, inflation goes up.”
PolitiFact says: Pelosi’s comment is outdated. There is still an element of truth to this theory, but several decades of real-world experience has shown that the relationship between unemployment and inflation is not all that precise.
“A reporter who covered the Buffalo supermarket shooting was a "crisis actor.”
“Kathy Barnette "pretends she's America First, but repeatedly attacked President Trump.”
PolitiFact says: Barnette attacked Trump during his run for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, but became a supporter after he won the nomination.
“Says she never tweeted comments linking pedophilia and Islam.”
PolitiFact says: In a 2015 tweet, Barnette shared a headline that said: “Pedophilia is a Cornerstone of Islam.” She has made a series of other anti-Muslim statements.
“Title 42 has fueled the border crisis. In 2019, 7 percent of illegal border crossings were repeated crossings. Today the rate is 27 percent.”
“We have 76% of Americans living paycheck to paycheck, meaning they are one paycheck away from poverty.”
PolitiFact says: Different surveys yield different figures, but we found no recent data putting the percentage of Americans living paycheck to paycheck as high as 76%. There is also no clear definition of “paycheck to paycheck.”
“Democrats want open borders so they can bring in and amnesty tens of millions of illegal aliens — that’s their electoral strategy.”
PolitiFact says: Democrats support border controls, no plan from Democratic leaders offers more than an 8 to 10 year wait for citizenship, and Republicans have been making inroads in winning Latino votes.
“Says the Biden administration is choosing to send baby formula to the border as one of its “out-of-touch priorities.”
PolitiFact says: The Biden administration would be breaking the law if it did not have a supply of formula and other food for people detained in government facilities.
“When President Biden took office … there was no vaccine available.”
PolitiFact says: A vaccine did exist before Biden took office; more than 20 million shots were administered while Trump was president. But when Biden took office, the vaccine was not “widely available.”
“Kathy Barnette wants to build a statue of Barack Obama right next to the one of Abraham Lincoln on Capitol Hill.”
PolitiFact says: Barnette started a petition to add two statues by the Emancipation Memorial in D.C. One of the Obama family and one of Frederick Douglas. Barnette opposed Obama's presidency.
“Agriculture is the No. 1 industry here in Pennsylvania.”
PolitiFact says: Agriculture in Pennsylvania accounted for $3.6 billion in economic activity in 2021, but that’s a tiny fraction of the state’s total economic output.
“Homemade baby formula recipes offer a ‘viable option’ during U.S. shortage”
PolitiFact says: Making your own homemade baby formula is not safe or recommended.
“Joe Biden “inherited inflation of 1.7%. Now we're well over 8% and growing.”
PolitiFact says: Inflation has spiked significantly on Biden’s watch, partially though not entirely due to his policies, analysts say. But it's premature to say that it's still "growing."
“My Treasury Department is planning to pay down the national debt this quarter, which never happened under my predecessor.”
PolitiFact says: The federal government’s planned paydown during the second quarter — when the government is flush with tax payments — will be swamped by new borrowing during the other three quarters of the year.
“The Biden administration has been "recklessly releasing potentially dangerous Afghans into our communities.”
“We’re one of the seven nations in the world that allow abortion on demand at 20 weeks.”
PolitiFact says: A dozen nations today allow abortions at 20 or more weeks based solely on the woman's request. But more than 20 additional nations give women wide latitude in having them at 20-24 weeks.
