PolitiFact
PolitiFact is a United States fact-checking site run by the Poynter Institute. It rates claims by politicians and viral posts on its Truth-O-Meter, from True to Pants on Fire.
“Says the surge in COVID-19 cases is caused by “antibody mediated viral enhancement” from the COVID-19 vaccines.”
PolitiFact says: If his claim were accurate, many more vaccinated people would be seriously ill. In fact, the opposite is occuring: The vast majority of COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths are among people who are not vaccinated.
“We are not having replacement birth rates. We have had more people leaving the state than coming in over the last 30 years.”
“Ivermectin is an effective treatment for COVID-19.”
PolitiFact says: Researchers see no conclusive evidence that ivermectin is an effective COVID-19 treatment. It is not approved for COVID-19 prevention or treatment by the FDA, which recommends not to use it for COVID-19.
“Suggests a suspicious link between the COVID-19 delta variant and company named Delta that works in 5G.”
PolitiFact says: The connection is simply that one of the variants is called delta and the company’s name is Delta. There is no connection between the coronavirus and the fifth-generation upgrade to wireless systems.
“I will need to show proof to do anything indoors in” New York City, “but not when I vote?”
PolitiFact says: The city is requiring proof of at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccination for certain indoor venues.
“Says there are fewer than 2,000 confirmed COVID-19 hospitalizations in the U.S.”
PolitiFact says: A chart from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is presented without its disclaimer — that the hospitalization data are for 14 states, not the entire U.S. Nationally, COVID-19 hospitalizations are rising.
“The Vaccine Adverse Event Recording System shows that 5,946 people have died because of the” COVID-19 vaccine.”
PolitiFact says: The Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System accepts unverified reports of possible side effects from taking vaccines. No evidence has established that a COVID-19 vaccine caused any deaths.
“Unvaccinated people “are making the vaccinated people sick and die, but the unvaccinated people are not dead or sick.”
PolitiFact says: Officials say COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths are occurring overwhelmingly among the unvaccinated. Rarely, vaccinated people are hospitalized or die after becoming infected, but it’s not known who infected them.
“Says Joe Biden has driven the current coronavirus surge because he “imported more virus from around the world by having a wide open southern border.”
PolitiFact says: Illegal immigration may be a contributing factor to the coronavirus’ spread, but the available evidence suggests another explanation: low vaccination rates.
“Says spending by Democrats is driving major jumps in car rentals, gas prices and hotel prices this summer”
“Sweden had few COVID deaths in July, despite low vaccination rates, relaxed lockdown rules and low mask compliance.”
PolitiFact says: Sweden went light on restrictions. It recorded a small number of COVID-19 deaths in July 2021. Its death rate is more than twice as high as it was 10 months earlier and is higher than its neighbors'. Infections are up.
“If your employer is mandating any pokes, do not quit. Make them fire you. That way you get unemployment benefits.”
PolitiFact says: Unemployment payments are provided to Americans who fall out of a job through no fault of their own. Getting fired for cause or misconduct is a different story.
“Two federal government buses “stopped in front of a Mexican restaurant in the very small town of Green Cove Springs Florida… The passengers were illegal immigrants, straight from the southern border.”
PolitiFact says: Law enforcement officials in Green Cove Springs denied the claim in the Facebook post.
“It’s safer to be unvaccinated than vaccinated against COVID-19.”
PolitiFact says: The chances of contracting COVID-19 and dying from it are much greater for unvaccinated people. There is no evidence that the COVID-19 vaccines have caused deaths.
“Joe Biden and Democrats “have done absolutely nothing to help families struggling to keep up with inflation.”
PolitiFact says: The American Rescue Plan Act will raise after-tax incomes, on average, by 3.8%. Low- and moderate-income households get about 70% of all the benefits.
“Says Gov. Tony Evers has declared Wisconsin “permanently closed” for business.”
“Florida Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried “suspended gun rights — no due process — just because she says these people were merely ‘involved’ in January 6.”
PolitiFact says: Florida law states that Fried’s department shall suspend gun permits for people who are arrested or charged with a crime that would disqualify someone from having a gun license, including felonies.
“The best way to avoid COVID altogether is to exercise, eat healthy and let your immune system beat it naturally.”
PolitiFact says: Public health authorities say masking, social distancing and vaccination are the best ways to guard against COVID-19 infection.
“The CDC has the power to extend the eviction moratorium.”
PolitiFact says: Pelosi implies that the executive branch has clear authority to extend the eviction moratorium, but legal experts say it’s a long shot at best.
