PolitiFact
PolitiFact is a United States fact-checking site run by the Poynter Institute. It rates claims by politicians and viral posts on its Truth-O-Meter, from True to Pants on Fire.
“Now, 50% of all of America, more than any other country, is fully vaccinated.”
PolitiFact says: The percentage of Americans who are fully vaccinated is 40%, not 50%, and five other countries have higher rates for full vaccination than the United States does.
“People with the COVID-19 vaccine are being "tracked in real time via 5G cellular, and all that data can be hacked into to track you.”
PolitiFact says: None of the COVID-19 vaccines contain microchips that are used to track people who get vaccinated.
“Police defunding is to blame for “skyrocketing murder rates” in Philadelphia, Minneapolis, Portland, New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.”
PolitiFact says: Homicides rates have gone up in the seven places highlighted in the post. But a link between higher homicide rates to police budget cuts has not been proven.
“Says BLM activist Sasha Johnson tweeted, “The white man will not be our equal but our slave.”
PolitiFact says: Tweets about enslaving white people were not sent by prominent BLM activist Sasha Johnson. The account was fake.
“Says Donald Trump is back on Twitter.”
PolitiFact says: An Instagram post used text from a statement Trump posted on his website to make it appear as though the statement was made on Twitter, where Trump is permanently suspended.
“The Biden administration has decided to cancel $0 in student debt.”
PolitiFact says: Biden’s 2022 federal budget proposal does not include a provision for student debt forgiveness. Biden is still considering options, including an executive order, for student debt forgiveness.
“The Biden administration’s American Jobs Plan will be “the biggest non-defense investment in research and development in the history of our country.”
“The CDC in mid-May quietly changed its international travel recommendations to require fully vaccinated people to test negative for COVID-19 before flying to the United States.”
“The Lancet peer-reviewed study confirms vaccine efficacy, not as 95% stated by the vaccine companies, but as: AstraZeneca 1.3%; Moderna 1.2%; J&J 1.2%; Pfizer 0.84%.”
“The mother of a missing boy in Nebraska confessed to killing him.”
“21% of 140,000 ballots were found to be in error in GA.”
PolitiFact says: The Secretary of State’s office said the claim about the error rate is wrong.
“An image shows the Blue Angels performing a maneuver called the “Hand of God.”
PolitiFact says: Social media users shared an image that purports to show the squadron performing a maneuver called the “Hand of God." The image is a piece of digital art, not a photograph.
“Boom! Georgia 1st to decertify election.”
PolitiFact says: Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, a Republican, certified the presidential election results in November affirming Joe Biden’s win. He has not sought to undo that process.
“Lumber, gas, wheat, coal and corn cost more in April 2021 "in Joe Biden's America" than they did a year earlier.”
PolitiFact says: Prices were sharply higher in April 2021 vs April 2020. The key reason is the nation’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. In April 2020, the pandemic all but shuttered the economy and depressed prices across the board.
“New Haven, Conn., had to issue bonds for a bridge after using funds for that bridge to pay for a police misconduct settlement.”
PolitiFact says: The city pulled $8.4 million, including $6.35 million in bridge money, to settle a police law suit.
“Biden agrees to Pelosi's request to resign.”
PolitiFact says: We found no legitimate reports about Pelosi calling for Biden’s resignation — it would be major global news if she had. Her recent statements applaud Biden’s policies and proposals.
“Gas prices highest in a decade. Worst jobs report in 2 decades. Highest inflation in 3 decades. Highest increase in illegal immigration in 4 decades.”
PolitiFact says: The post combines bits of accuracy with misdirection. All in all, each of the claims is exaggerated in some way.
“Says a photo shows a “lithium mine for hybrid cars.”
PolitiFact says: The photo is of a gold mine, not a mine for lithium, which is used to make batteries for hybrid and electric vehicles.
