PolitiFact says: Being transgender is not considered a mental health disorder. Historically, the diagnosis has carried the term "disorder," but experts no longer view it as a pathology and are working to destigmatize the diagnosis.
“Ron DeSantis is against fracking. He is against drilling”
PolitiFact says: During his 2018 campaign for Florida governor, Ron DeSantis promised to ban fracking and prevent oil drilling off the state’s coast.
“Texas teacher fired for reading Diary of Anne Frank to class.”
PolitiFact says: A Texas teacher was fired for assigning eighth grade students to read from a graphic illustration adaptation of Anne Frank’s diary, which the district said was not approved.
“U.S. aid to Ukraine will continue during a government shutdown, but programs for food stamps, transportation, education, justice, environmental protection and homelessness will not.”
PolitiFact says: The Defense Department said operations supporting Ukraine are exempt from a federal government shutdown. But essential services, such as law enforcement, air traffic control and food stamps will also continue.
“We are more energy independent today” under President Joe Biden.”
PolitiFact says: In several measurable ways, the U.S. has moved toward energy independence in recent years. Experts say, though, that this hasn’t meant genuine energy independence.
“Poland declares war on Russia.”
PolitiFact says: Poland has increased its military presence along its border with Belarus, Russia’s ally, but hasn’t declared war against either country.
“They brought in 25,000 (National Guard members) because Biden couldn't get enough people to his inauguration.”
PolitiFact says: The audience size at President Joe Biden’s Jan. 20, 2021, inauguration was limited because of concerns related to the spread of COVID-19 and security following the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.
“Trump just bought a handgun!”
PolitiFact says: Video footage shows former President Donald Trump saying he wanted to buy a Glock pistol during a recent visit to a South Carolina gun shop. But his campaign told PolitiFact that Trump did not purchase a firearm.
“Under Project Hamilton, “every dollar you hold in your bank account, your wallet and even your retirement” will be confiscated and “replaced with a dangerous new totally digital dollar.”
PolitiFact says: Project Hamilton is a research project of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology focused on the feasibility of a hypothetical central bank digital currency, not implementing one.
“Video shows Republican Missouri state senators using flamethrowers to burn books.”
PolitiFact says: A viral video shows Republican Missouri state Sens. Bill Eigel and Nick Schroer using flamethrowers to burn empty cardboard boxes, not books.
“A video proves U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland faces “a lying charge” after giving a fake number to Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., at a hearing.”
PolitiFact says: The video does not show U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland facing a "lying charge."
“Giant human skeletons as large as 36 feet have been “unearthed and documented” in historical records.”
PolitiFact says: Giant skeleton hoaxes have been circulating for years. Many can be traced back to edited contest pictures. PolitiFact found no evidence to support claims that giant human skeletons have been discovered and documented.
“Image shows Sen. Rand Paul in a bathrobe on the steps of the U.S. Capitol.”
PolitiFact says: Both Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., and the image’s creator confirmed that the picture was AI-generated. The photo is in response to the Senate’s relaxed dress code, which has caused controversy among politicians.
