It dates back to July 2021, when police lathi-charged Samajwadi Party workers in Prayagraj during a protest over alleged irregularities in the District Panchayat President election. There is no credible information or media report of a police lathi-charge on Samajwadi Party (SP) workers in Uttar Pradesh in September 2025.
