Mr Bandt's claim is overblown. A document provided by his office to Fact Check attributed the vast majority of this figure to the cost of the government's fuel tax credits scheme. There is some debate as to whether the credits represent a subsidy. But on any view it is a stretch to say that all the benefits of the scheme flow to the fossil fuel industry.
